Keller Center Social Stair receives a Citation of Merit from AIA Chicago.

Woodhouse Tinucci Architects, in partnership with Farr Associates, received a Citation of Merit Award at AIA Chicago’s 2019 Small Projects Awards.

“The stair is highly visible, and the deep landings provide a place for social interaction between faculty, students, and staff. This strategy is essential to ‘Active Design Guidelines’, which creates the opportunity for daily physical activity. As one ascends the stair, their perspective into the forum continuously changes with views of teaming and seminar spaces, placing policy on display. At the top of the stair a skylight paints streaking patterns on the white reflective walls, beaming down to the lowest level. The rich material textures of the stair, combined with new steel elements that brace the existing concrete structure, contrast with the illuminated white walls giving the stair the appearance of floating. ”
